The design is based on traditional felted wool “pennies”. The Pennies are made from appliqued and embroidered circles and stars. The circles and stars came from upcycled wool garments.\u003cspan style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eEach is stitched with #5 pearl cotton.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eI designed a geometric block for the final appliques once I was home from vacation. There are 25 blocks that measure about 19’’ square. Once the blocks were finished they were sewn together and a 3’’ outer border was added. The final appliqued pennies were added to the intersections for a quilt top that finishes at 98.5’’ x 98.5’’. I used the fabric line Peppercorn by Andover Fabrics for the front, back and binding.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eCustom quilting includes outlining of appliqued pennies, stitched inside the large and mid-size pennies.
