FAQ's

You have invested in a hand crafted one of a kind quilt that should last a lifetime with a little care. I love making quilts and bringing them to life. My quilts are to be used and enjoyed. I pass love, joy, and light on to you through my creation.

Frequently asked questions

General Care Tips

The most damaging factors for quilts are light, moisture, bugs and temperature extremes.

Avoid direct sunlight on your quilt, it will cause fading and rot the fabric over time. Sun filters on windows, rotating your quilts, pulling shades to filter light and fabric sprays that retard fading are care options.

How do I clean my quilt?

To extend the life of your quilt I recommend you spot clean with warm water and mild soap when needed and before storage. It also helps to air out your quilt. I do this outside on a warm/sunny day. Lay it flat on a clean sheet with a clean sheet over it to avoid fading.

When you do need to wash quilts my first recommendation is hand washing and then lying flat to dry. I know this is not always practical so if you choose to machine wash use a large, front loading,
non-agitating washer on gentle cycle with mild soap. Home washers with an agitation arm are too small and the agitation and spinning will cause damage.

Lay the damp quilt flat on a clean sheet to dry. This reduces stress on the quilt. Drying in a dryer is an option but puts more stress/agitation on the quilt.

Do not dry clean. As a quilt historian I stand firm on no dry cleaning. The chemicals used can build up over time and cause damage.

How should I store my quilt?

Ideal storage for fabric, linens and quilts is in the dark with regulated temperature. Avoid:  Attics (hot), unfinished basements (damp), storage units and tightly sealed plastic (dust, heat, moisture and chemicals). Extreme temperature changes damage fabrics and make them brittle. Bugs and mildew love to breed in damp places and eat natural fibers. Fabric needs to breathe and does well in about the same conditions that we live in.

Avoid contact with untreated wood, which will create brown spots. One suggestion for storage is to wrap quilts in an old clean sheet. Also avoid permanent fold lines by not stacking too deep and refolding twice a year, a minimum of once a year. It gives you a chance to check for any bugs or damage.

What are your shipping & returns policy?

Free shipping in the USA. I currently only ship within the USA. 100% refund within 30 days of receiving quilt.

Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.

Do you do any events/exhibitions?

I do not currently participate in craft shows and events where my quilts can be frequently touched and soiled. I’m a bit particular about keeping them clean.

I do teach classes and do presentations on a variety of textile topics. These will be announced on my socials and by email, so be sure to subscribe to the quilting circle to be kept up to date with any new classes as well as new products and much more!
