Ikat
To create this high contrast quilt, I used the fabric line Wild Blue Yonder by Island Batik and combined it with its complementary color scheme of medium and warm orange fabrics. The quit pattern is “Ikat” by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic.
Ikat is a resist dying technique from Indonesia which is applied on the yarns before dying. When weaving it creates patterns with feathered edges. In this quilt the tessellation design is meant to be a tribute to the skill and beauty of historical Ikat fabrics.
The backing is a batik rayon cotton blend fabric with a lighter colored background and a blue print.
I used a 100% bamboo batting, a honeycomb quilting pattern and variegated polyester thread to create a finished look that complements this striking design.
