It’s A Reel Deal
This magnificent quilt features wool appliqued reels, swags and tassels. I wanted to create the look and feel of an 1850’s style quilt. I used the pattern “Christmas Reel” by Liz Bongean for the appliqued wool reels. I set the reel blocks in a circle of nine medallion with traditional snowball blocks to offset the applique. I designed the outer border swags and star tassels to frame and complement the center. The red, green and white color combination was very popular during the mid-19th century. All of the wool appliques are hand stitched with matching thread. Then they were embroidered with pearl cotton using the button hole and slanted button hole stitch for added texture.
For the backing fabric I used “Buttermilk Autumn” by Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin for Henry Glass & Co. Beautiful custom quilting and a 6 oz. bamboo batting add the finishing touch and brings this quilt to life.
Included with this exceptional quilt is a matching table runner.
The traditional colors of red and green on a light background fit well into many decors and are always a dynamic look for the Christmas holiday season.
