Jane Comes Of Age
This quilt is one that spanned over a decade in the making. The 4.5’’ square blocks in the center of each churn dash block are from “Dear Jane” by Brenda Manges Papadakis which features the 225 block patterns from the 1863 Jane A. Stiekle quilt.
I hand pieced and appliqued over 30 of the Dear Jane blocks in 2006/2007. Like many projects it was set aside. In 2017 I placed the “Jane” blocks in the center of churn dash blocks and chose a triple strip sashing with 9-patch cornerstones. A rose print for the outer border made a lovely finish.
I did custom show quilting which started by using top of the line 6 oz. bamboo batting. I quilted a different design in each center “Jane” block, McTavish background filler, straight lines in the sashing and tied it all together with feathers in the border. Jane was honored by receiving a 2nd place ribbon at the juried Boise Basin Quilt Show in 2018.
Fabrics are all cotton. Thread is Superior and Glide polyester.
