Bargello
Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. The name originates from a series of chair backs from the 17th century that are in the Bargello castle in Italy.
Fast forward to today and you have the bargello quilt style which mimics needlepoint embroidery designs. This quilt is simplistic yet a striking rendition of a bargello pattern. I chose to make it with 19th century reproduction fabrics in a monochromatic brown/tan color way.
The backing and binding also feature a variety of reproduction fabrics. I used an 80% cotton, 20% polyester batting and quilted an all over floral and leaf pattern to complement the historic feel of this quilt.
