For this quilt I used the pattern True Blue by Lissa Alexander. It was on the cover of the American Patchwork and Quilting Mag. for J/F 2026. Three different 9-patch blocks set on point and framed with fabric strips create an optical illusion and three-dimensional effect.
I had 9-patch blocks made up in scraps that matched the cuts needed for one of the blocks. That was all it took. I was off and running with my scraps. I spent three days sorting cutting and grouping scraps into block sets. I decided to enlarge my quilt and have no restraints on color or prints. For my version I needed 36 blocks. I cut out 121. Obviously, I went a bit overboard. Far more blocks than I needed. The positive is I now have 85 blocks ready for another project.
This is the ultimate scrap fabric quilt. The only fabric I pulled from my stash was a one-yard piece for the butterfly print outer border. All other fabrics came from my scrap collection. This quilt has a lot of movement and things to see. Because there are so many prints and colors this quilt will blend into many decorating schemes.
For the backing I used the print “Lucky Day” by MoMo for Moda Fabrics and a butterscotch-colored binding. The batting is 50% bamboo/50% cotton. The quilting pattern, Hickory, combines squares and circles in an all over design.
