Empress And Stars

This quilt came about as a quilt guild paint chip challenge. Each person pulled a paint chip from a bag, no peeking, and was challenged to make something matching the color as close as possible. My color was “Rosebud”. The log cabin variation blocks feature a fussy cut carpenters’ wheel in the center. I had these blocks made before I drew my color. I knew they would mix beautifully with the rose color.

I went to the fabric store to find the perfect match to tie everything together. From thousands of bolts of fabric there was only one fabric that matched both hew and value. “Empress Woo”, the print is featured in the star blocks and border.

The batting is 80% cotton/20% polyester. I quilted a rose pattern to go with the theme of the quilt. A strawberry variegated polyester thread on the top adds depth to the quilting and a rose thread for the back blends perfectly.

This is a delightful quilt with a wide color range of pinks, roses and cool reds. The Empress Woo fabric is also used as part of the backing. The binding is a red woodcut print.
