Pennies From Heaven - Wall Hanging

Tranquil neutral prints are used as a backdrop for a variety of wool appliqued pennies.  Larger circles are divided by small circles. The large circles are stacked four pennies deep. The small circles have two pennies stacked together. There are a few large circles with stars in the mix. Each is layered and embroidered using a buttonhole stitch around the outer edge and a variety of stitches in the center of the smallest pennies. This wall hanging has a traditional primitive look.

For the quilting I outlined the appliqued pennies and did feathered quilting in the background. The batting is 80% cotton/20% polyester. “Chelsea” by Jenny Beyer for RJR fabrics is used for the backing. A hanging sleeve is stitched into the back binding to finish this textured art quilt.
